This style is freakin' awesome. I love the simplicity. However, I read various Gawker blogs with Lifehacker, Gizmodo, and The Consumerist being the big three but I also pop in Valleywag, Kotaku, io9 and others from time to time. I see you also have a Consumerist version of this, and I had modified the last script creating one for each Gawker site, but no the Gawker blogs have a new update and I was wondering if it would be possible to make this style apply to all Gawker blogs? I gave it a shot myself but had no luck.
Very nice style. I love its simplicity and good taste. However I would like to see the photos (they used to help me decide if I want to read further) and I would like a search field on top of the page. Is it too much to ask you to make a second version including that? At some point I will have to learn myself... Anyway, as I said, very nice. Congratulations
Works very well. Had to modify it to work on the Australian maps site. I imagine all the different google maps could be added, don't have a list handy. I added domain(maps.google.com.au) to the site lists
A commendable effort to streamline TFD. But this style also omits a prominent feature of thefreedictionary: 'References from classical literature'. If it's possible to revert to an option for this style to display TFD minus ads and 200+ links for synonyms, but with the literature context section intact--this would be a wonderful addition.
Thank you, even though it isn't done yet! Their fricking redesign clashes with my perceptual disabilities, making reading the site a chore rather than relaxing... I even started watching Userstyles' newsfeed in part to get any possible fix for the site as soon as possible, since I'm not good enough with CSS to do it yet. (I already used yours for the old site.)
Suggestion: having the large front-page images resized so they match the newly-resized text might improve the look further. (The right-side topmost article in your "after" is particularly bad in that regard.) You could always stick it in a comment so it's off by default and let people enable it if they prefer.
I agree with hardXcorey. I don't agree with their tactics either, but this isn't the proper forum to vent your frustrations. Rate the quality of the style, not how much you hate eBaum.
Nice...I was just about to work on a style for this site, so now I don't have to =) Only problem for me is that it doesn't fully extend all the way to the right (@1280x960), but otherwise good.
Theres a problem with searches(which is why I'm giving a 3). When you do a search, it messes up the page.
Also, this is hardly the place to talk about EBWS. This is not a forum to discuss EBW, this is simply a code to make a change on the site. Also, that video shows nothing. There is no proof. Simply a whiny kid (who's never had anything stolen from him by EBW) that's trying to gain an audience.
Great - thanks! I was hoping someone would do this...
UPDATE (Nov 16 '06): doesn't seem to be working anymore. The sidebar, top search box, etc., have reappeared... If someone fixes this, I'll be your best friend forever.
(Nov 17 '06): Thanks, Webb! I don't know anything about making these scripts, but to my eyes, it looks like it's 99% there (pretty damn good for a "working beta"). Like you said, there are a few leftover scraps, but regardless, I'm happy with it. Thanks for your efforts!
(Nov 20 '06): Thanks, again, Webb... I'm having a little problem with it, though. I want to have the ability to add comments, so I deleted the lines you pointed out, but I got the error "Selector expected. Ruleset ignored due to bad selector" (see Imageshack #1). I continued with the edit, saved it, and went back to Lifehacker, and it was messed up (see Imageshack #2). Did I mess up the edit somewhere?
Imageshack #1 (error): --removed, no longer applicable--
Imageshack #2 (result): --removed, no longer applicable--
(Nov 21 '06): Excellent! Now I'm happy... Thanks, Webb!
Please see the following video. http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/276616 The majority of content on Ebaums world is stolen from other sites(Newgrounds, something awful, ytmnd, and many others), and is used without the consent of the original authors.
I really love it. Thanks a lot. Now I don't have to wait for LH webpages to show up for a long time. (My computer connection is slow.) It can be loaded faster now.
