This didn't seem to work for me. At first I tried it with Delicious 2.0 Godbach's style 0.5 but that was terrible. So I disabled that style and tried this one alone. Again, it didn't work. I got different results, but neither one was right.
Beautiful! I use the NASA theme for FF and now I'm almost tempted to use web based gMail again instead of accessing it through Tbird. Really, although I'm not ready to give up using TB because of all of the other advantages, I am not as reluctant to use native gMail anymore. Also, encountered some minor script errors during installation and even though they did not even noticeably effect the site they were rapidly fixed by the developer so the support was great. Highly recommended for those that use web based gMail and like a dark theme. Now, if someone would do this same theme for TBird it would make my day. Kudos to the developer.
I like the idea of this. Buuuut, could you somehow edit it so that it extends out to the 210 px ( or more) on hover of only each individual label? Also, MUST work with "GLOBEX DESIGNS" version of G Mail Redesigned. Go ahead. Go for the 5'th Star!
I really like this skin for Gmail. I've got one problem though. When I went to install the style (and edit it to add a background-color for my Yahell!Group messages (they like to add a white background div around their messages)) I got this error:
This style has problems that may prevent it from working:
Selector expected. Ruleset ignored due to bad selector.
Expected identifier for class selector but found ' '. Ruleset ignored due to bad selector.
Do you want to use this code anyway?
I use the code anyway, and it appears to work just fine. I've tried finding the section of the code that his error references, but I don't know where it is.
FYI: I have been using FF3 for a little over a month now, with absolutely no problems. The post I originally made here was made out of ignorance, because I didn't know how to accurately describe the error in question. But no more issues to report with this style now.
@shinji: Yes you are correct about that, however, FF3 did seem to correct all of that. But thanks though.
This style is not only elegant but a swift one in terms of responding time. It won't slow Gmail as other beautiful styles often do, notably Gmail Redesigned and Gmail 2:Dark,Blue, Trasparency. Highly recommended. There are few suggestions however. I think the way "label and "chat name" appears is only mediocre. There is only one tab in the nasa-style tab-bar, which make it awkward to see. Hope the author could modify its appearance. Nevertheless, this is a very good sytle that everyone should try, especially for those using Nasa theme.
@Louis126: You need Firefox 3.0 for it to display correctly. When running Firefox 2.x it fails to display part of the page correctly namely what you had mentioned. The Inbox|X image overlaps the subject of the message. Other things get screwy too.
Very Cool! Thanks, keep up the wonderful work on this (using it now)!!!! This one is on the same level with Globex Redesigned Style, or perhaps even nicer. A few things I have noticed that are still needing work are: When there are only 12 or fewer messages in the Inbox there is a big bright very ugly patch of unnecessary white space at the bottom of the screen. Also, the Compose and Contacts screens still resemble the "traditional" Google Gmail displays way too closely than they should (I'm sure you'll eventually change them). Lastly, there are still some (incoming) messages I am receiving which don't look right (don't display correctly) due to some of the colors being presented over a black background. I wouldn't get rid of the black background, but would just like for all incoming messages to have their text and graphics appear correctly, as much as possible.
Other than this it looks great so far. I hope these comments are helpful to you.
I like what you're doing. ...almost a perfect match for the NASA theme. I realize you're still working on it.
I think you should add a just little more negative space (padding) to the email lines, and maybe add some more width to the tabs. Just an idea, but maybe some beveled labels since the theme has a slight 3D look to it.
This is one of the better gmail styles out there. Nice work.
Love it! Only problem i have is that the text in my search bar becomes white when i install this, and since the background is white, i can't see what is typed. Anybody got any suggestions to change the text in the search bar back to black? Thx!
Hey, I like this a lot, but is there any way of making the labels more functional, since the appear as white bars in my 'All Mail' view which I use quite a lot?
actually, i just noticed that the gmail contacts page (the new style contacts) is fubar, so i can't use this script. i would also like to know if the currently selected button indentation can be turned off.
I just installed stylish, does anyone know the code so I can quickly convert various websites background and text to these colors? I have an eye condition and this would be very cool. btw, thanks for this!
*hat-tip* Thanks for tackling this beast. I know precisely how painful it is. ^_^;
Other ideas:
overflow-y: auto , on compose mail "to" input field.
Toggle :active styling of compose inputs and textareas, see: painted black - forms (Which really trashes your GMail style, but I don't intend to bother you with that. Good for you to know that my example won't work next to the style we're now talking about, though.)
Relevant to :hover and :active , to make the button graphic toggling more intuitive, you could shorten (or remove) the shadow on default buttons so they're flat, then use your current :hover as-is, and use your current default as the new :active. This would cause the button to "press down" when clicked.
The chat sidebar "pop out" widget flickers when your CSS comes into effect to resize it. Granted, I haven't skimmed your code to know what you've done there, but my experience reminds me of that happening when precision sizing properties are on a :hover selector rule, and they argue creatively with some other precision sizing. Yours wins the battle, but we see the evidence every time, and it is apparently slowing down rendering of the box, too. My first look at improving that would be to place the sizing rules on a normal, non-pseudo selector. If it's "display: none" or "visibility: hidden" already, and I think those boxes are, it should be ok to do that.
seems the preview works but save the script and error other than that looxz great, you just need to touch up the the rounded white part (colors a little eggy)
You only needed to include the selectors/properties to round the search boxes. Instead, you have an entire old version of my style, which will break new versions if they load it after mine.
I get an error when trying to preview it: "This Style has problems that may prevent it from working: Expected Identifier or string for value in attribute selector but found '1f80'. Malformed simple selector as negation pseudo-class argument '1f80'.Ruleset ignored due to bad selector"
this is great! one question or problem, is it compatible with rich text? when i switch to rich text it turns all black when composing an email (not usable). i had (have) the same issue with the painted black style. but this is still great!!
I think this is a wonderful style. However the only complaint I have is that (at least in my experience) there is absolutely NO way to distinguish read messages from unread ones. Please update this style by allowing unread messages to have a different color in the Inbox. Or, alternately, you could simply cause the read ones to take on a smaller, thinner text style, while allowing unread messages to remain bold. However, I believe that some combination of these suggestions would be best. Otherwise, great style. Thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous. Objectively, it fits perfectly, it has been very well thought, handy, easy. Subjectively, I just happen to like this combination of dark gray, black and white designed in harmony, which means a rest for the eyes and a continued pleasure for the view (exotic colors/combinations get quickly boring). I admit a great deal of admiration, this is really a splendid work. Srazzano, whoever you may be : bravo!
I am not using painted black, I am using Google colored hover, Google widen search results, a black iGoogle theme and the Customize Google Firefox extension. i have disabled them and tried this style with no luck.
I just tried this script, and I like the old drop down arrows better (the ones that got bigger and bolder when the mouse was over them). the way they are now it's like they're always in "hover" mode.
any chance you could make it a bit smaller? it seems to enlarge the height of my toolbar , which takes up some screen space. it does look awesome though.
Works just fine and enables more and neatly displayed links/bookmarklets on the Personal tool-bar. I would have preferred that Personal tool-bar a few pixels less wide though (there is extra space which may be narrowed), hence a 4/5 rating. Nice work :)
