Firefox, tested on 2+
Have you ever clicked any scrollbar arrow button?
Sure not.
And how long is it that you dragged a scrollbar to scroll some content for the last time?
Yes, you cannot remember, because since you use mouse wheel (or other device with similar purpose) and/or Firefox extension such a "Scrollbar Anywhere" or "Grab and Drag", scrollbars are useful only to let you know that the content is larger than its container and which part you are actually looking at.
So, what about removing those arrows and making the rest of it tinier?
Helpful extensions:
- "Scrollbar Anywhere" extension (simple, recommended):
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/marc.boullet/ext/extensions-en.html
- "Grab and Drag" extension (fancy):
http://grabanddrag.mozdev.org/index.html
Thanks / see also / notes:
- Scrollbar hidden / hide scrollbars totally (more 'radical' :] )
- Fx: Scrollbars, adjustments (this one actually inspired me)
Why it didn't (?) not work in FF3:
