This introduces a small image to identify the type is each hyper-link.
Small icons for these types of files:
- compression: 7z, zip, bz2, tar, tgz, gz, rar.
- movie: swf, mpg, wmv, mov, avi, ppt, pps, divx.
- application: exe, xpi, msi.
- image: png, jng, jpg, jp2, gif, svg, svgz, mng, bmp.
- text: css, txt, sok, xsb, vbs, js, class, java, torrent, rtf, doc, pdf, docx, pptx, xlsx, xul.
- interactive: xml, rss.
- sound: mp3, wma, wav, asx, asf, ogg.
- e-mail hyper-links
Install options
- Install Stylish for Firefox, Thunderbird, Flock, Mozilla Suite, SeaMonkey, or Songbird. If you have Stylish already, make sure you're using the latest version and have JavaScript enabled.
- You need Firefox to use this style. Get , then Install Stylish, then come back here to install this style.
- - load into the Stylish extension where you can preview and save it.
- - this style has been updated since you installed it in Stylish.
- - Greasemonkey and Opera users can load this style as a user script.

I've created a fork, Icon identifiers for links redux, that uses system icons and places them after the link.

If you want to use system icons you can put (for example)
a[href$=".jpg"]::before {padding:0 3px; content:url("moz-icon://.JPG?size=16");}
or
a[href$=".jpg"]:hover {cursor:url("moz-icon://.JPG?size=16"),pointer;}
