Based on the much-loved iGoogle: Compact & Transparent top bar *UPDATED*, comes iGoogle: Compact Transparency & Tabs. This one restores the OLD way of working with iGoogle... with your tabs at the top and out of the way. This frees up screen real-estate for wider single-line headlines, and more content overall.
I've tested it with a variety of themes, and haven't found any showstopper issues.
A word of caution though: this is only tested in Firefox 3.6. It's VERY hacky, and there are bound to be more issues than I can find right away. If you find anything that seems off, please leave a comment and I will try to fix it!
**** KNOWN ISSUES ****
- On narrow screens (or small browser windows) the tab bar might partially obscure the "change theme" link. Clicking on the rightmost side of the link should still work.
- White text is impossible to read on light or white themes. (If there is enough demand, I will make a dark version)
