A bit of explanation first.
First of all, most of Google's web apps and services each have their own site icons: Gmail, Google Docs, Google Reader, et cetera.
So when you bookmark one (or more) of them, you'd expect your browser to consistently remember the favicon for each site, right? Well, for some reason Google doesn't let it do that.
Google web apps/services will revert to the default Google favicon when the user is not logged in to their Google account.
Sure, any Google site favicon living in your bookmarks bar will update to the correct one— ONCE you've logged in to your Google account, and not before. Sometimes, after you've logged out, it'll keep the right one in the bookmarks bar, but it will eventually change back to the Google.com favicon.
Personally, I like to rely on recognition of a site's favicon, rather than the bookmark's text label. I'm wired to be primarily visual, see?
So I made this userstyle to command the Google favicons in my bookmarks to SIT
