This is FiltersetP without the need for the AdBlock extension.
You can update your own to suit sites you visit; as I find and properly check new elements/source/href blocks, I will incorporate them after sufficient testing. If you try to eliminate every single ad, FiltersetP will be 3 miles long and/or you'll have false positives, folks. If you see an ad popping up, right click it and get its properties, or inspect the element in DOM Inspector and add it to your personal list. I have a self-imposed, non-paid responsibility to make sure people don't have false positives. I don't even a "donate" button on here. Paramount to me is that none of you lose valuable site information you WANT to view.
It goes without saying, don't use it if you actually want to see ads. These blockers ALL apply to several, up to hundreds, of sites. This is the result of 42 months of optimizing filters first for AdBlock, and now for a standalone script. You will find this as quick & efficient as the original FiltersetP for AdBlock - except at ~16k, this style is 3 - 7% the size of the installed AB extension folder alone! Avatar/emoticon blocking is now a separate script (also updated/compliled/optimized), along with other site-specific scripts I've developed here. Although this script does not "block" ads but rather "blocks them view," it alleviates the overhead of the extension altogether - so page loading is, IMO, faster. No it won't block cookies - there are other programs for that so I'd appreciate them not being compared.
If you're a fan of "whitelisting," which has always seemed a bad policy to me, then you should use the AdBlock extension and whitelisting. That is not generally available in css although some have managed to do it. I believe a filter is either good or it isn't; whitelisting just attempt to make up for a bad filter.
Please DO NOT incorporate ANY of this FiltersetP Style when forming other "adblocking compilation" styles. False positives are nasty, and if there's "versions of versions of copied subversions" all over the planet, people will complain with no recourse since they're not using THIS one, the PROPER one. That's why I like contact with folks who do see a problem, so it can be quickly resolved. I'd rather DROP a "filter" altogether than either whitelist for a certain site or have people endure lack of functionality on site(s) they visit. It's just not worth having if it's "risky."

Please add ads (dot) brazzers (dot) com to your hosts file. When you come across it, Firefox3 gives you a warning that it will cause an endless loop, and FiltersetP will not block the ads/FX3 warnings. You can search on Firefox Forum for hosts file information. I'm not adding it to FiltersetP at this time because it does no good.
August 2, 2008 - many, MANY thanks to DMcCunney for the suggestion on adlegend; I've also added it to my hosts file. I think it fell through the cracks from my old regex days when "ad" incorporated about 27 variations in one line! I appreciate the input. Also, I've added "adland." For now, I'm following the akamaitech suggestion as well - it did make a difference on the noted space/dot/com. As I recall that was inserted for a traffic report site that it really cleaned up. December 16th 2008 - after using [id*="wrapper_wnsz"] on several sites I personally visit, and finding it on more - I've added it to main elements blocking instead of on my "personal site list."
Also - thanks Brightside - yes it will be quicker, that's why I wrote it and thank you! AS FOR GOOGLE, I'm a huge Google/Gmail fan, and have my own CSS for my Gmail so I don't include it. Call it loyalty to God's Gift, Google. You can find Google styles on here by the millions. Same for MySpace and Yahoo. Those are 3 very specific, high latency sites which not everyone visits - and in an effort to keep FiltersetP as "universal:" as possible, they're omitted in favor of all you writing your own. Tending to those 3 sites would probably DOUBLE the size of FiltersetP - and as Brightside mentioned - speed is important.

Install options
- Install Stylish for Firefox, Thunderbird, Flock, Mozilla Suite, SeaMonkey, or Songbird. If you have Stylish already, make sure you're using the latest version and have JavaScript enabled.
- You need Firefox with Stylish to use this style. Get it now, then Install Stylish, then come back here to install this style.
- - load into the Stylish extension where you can preview and save it.
- - this style has been updated since you installed it in Stylish.
- - Greasemonkey and Opera users can load this style as a user script.

This sheet sure came in handy... I do wish it would be updated more often, but understandably one has other priorities I imagine. Ever since I switched the extension for this, my Firefox has ran SO much faster, it's unreal (I had a buggy version I think). This, combined with my gargantuan HOSTS file has, for the most part, eliminated most of the ads one comes across. BugMeNot2 had a good point though, it misses many of Google's text-based ads. Not much to complain about there since it IS only text, so no biggie there.
I had been using Ad blocking per Gozer for my ad blocks, then ABP, now this. I'll leave comments if I find something that needs patched up, after checking for false positives. Thanks for creating probably THE most important stylesheet in my collection.

it seems to work really well for some sites, but places like myspace? i dont think it does very much b/c i still see a lot of ads on the myspace front page and also after logging into my account =/
also.. i guess this doesnt prevent those popup ads or ads opening in new tabs does it?

Two suggestions, based on experience with space.com
First, remove [href*="akamaitech.net"],[src*="akamaitech.net"],
This was generating false positives, and blocking images associated with stories.Second, add [href*="adlegend.com"],[src*="adlegend.com"],
This seems to be Yet Another Ad Server site.Other than that, I'm delighted. I'm not fanatic about blocking all ads, and I don't want the overhead of AdBlock Plus. I just want ad heavy sites cleaned up and made readable, and FiltersetP does the job efficiently.

You're welcome on the adlegend bit, and thanks for the akamaitech update. Akamai is a major CDN, and serves an awful lot of stuff that isn't ads, so care is needed. It took me about about an hour to figure out why Space.com wasn't displaying images, and I was a bit startled when the Filterset P CSS was the culprit. :-)

The inclusion of blocking links with "javax" in their href makes browsing through the Java API documentation difficult. Otherwise, absolutely amazing replacement for a previously needed extension.

You may wish to consider adding:
richmedia.yimg.comIt blocks some of the ads that seem to persist on Yahoo! with this style. I haven't found anything broken yet because of this addition. If I find something is broken, I'll post back here.

One thing I noticed is it blocks links on craigslist for example: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/etc/479801040.html should have a link to a survey in it.

Kudos for a wonderful style; however, I noticed that with the primary reason I downloaded 'Ad Blocking FiltersetP' (MIVA_AdLink), it not only removes the green underline and the Floating Ad on hover but it also completely removes the offending word making documents difficult to comprehend)
e.g. http://www.fitnessattitudes.com/pilates.htmlIs this by design? fixable? known bug?
Aside from this, "good effort" for your "Great work" on this "quintessential ad blocking style". I look forward to a response/update/solution.

This is a good effort. However, Privoxy (along with the FoxyProxy extension) is far more effective at blocking ads *and* cookies. This stylesheet will hide ads but they will still be downloaded, along with cookies from those domains.

I think your last selector [class="iAs"] should be using color:inherit, instead of color:black. That way it uses the text color of its parent element, instead of assuming all web sites use black text ;p

This may be more conventional than Adblock Plus but it is less useful. There is no ability to whitelist sites and/or ads and it has more false positives than Adblock. One major false positive render the download page of http://www.adultswim.com useless. There are false positives in email ads that I subscribe to from multiple vendors completely rendering the email useless. One such vendor is Gap Inc. (Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic). Links that contain the word ads (though they are not ads) are completely removed and renders content inaccessible. One example would be to go to http://www.consumerist.com and do a search for "black friday". You will notice that on the second page of results certain posts links are missing because they contain the word ad or ads. Your style could also use more documentation and comments so that we would know how each section works and not have to go through the time consuming task of picking stuff out one by one.
*UPDATE*
Paulfox has contacted me personally to work out my issues. My original rating has been removed pending the outcome and was solely based on a comparison with Adblock Plus on its efficiency and ease of use and customization.

This causes problems with the finance.yahoo.com dropdown menus for some reason. The CSS menus do not move to the appropriate part of the page and remain just off to the right of the window where they cannot be accessed... When I disable it, everything works fine.

I have disabled Adblock plus w FiltersetG to give this a try & so far this is working great. I also use the extension 'Remove It Permanently' which enables a final cleaning of the page - often what remains is the word 'Advertisement' which RIP can eliminate. If this uses fewer resources, does its job faster and continues to give these good results, no doubt this nets out as a plus. Thank you for doing the work.
